Blog 1: Volleyball issues

The Stresses of Volleyball
Last season of volleyball was probably one of the worst seasons of a sport I’ve experienced. There were too many personality clashes, cliques, and talking behind peoples backs. I can’t say that I wasn’t a part of any of the immature things going on, but I wasn’t the root of all the drama.
This volleyball season was anticipated. Some girls who were returning from last year, and I, were excited to start new on a team that wouldn’t include the seniors whom were the source of drama, and our horrible 2-18 record.  We brainstormed things that would make our team closer and better, like team bonding, communication, positive attitudes, and all of those other optimistic thoughts people would have.
Finally, the season had arrived, and yes, we were more excited than ever. The people, who were expected to return, returned.  We were all ready to go about our game plan from last year.
But now, the season is really gaining its momentum, and some people are showing their true colors. I understand school, practice, and games are some sources of stress to people, but the drama isn’t caused by stress. There’s complaining, crying, attitudes, and egos. We have just about everything that we had last year including slight drama. And even worse, our coach is somewhat of an issue. Lately she’s decided to create tests and quizzes to evaluate how well we know the game of volleyball. Mind you, we have 2 hours of practice, and all this test business has been cutting about an hour and a half on practicing.
We’ve lost to teams we shouldn’t be losing to. Who’s to blame for this so far? Should we blame the teammates for having a little bit of drama towards each other? Or our coach for cutting practice time down by creating quizzes like we’re in school? I don’t know, but I’m just ranting and venting. I need a little bit of insight on this situation, because I want to know what is REALLY going wrong with our team, and how we can solve the issue.

  3. Haha and I thought crew drama was bad. Don't worry about it just try to focus on having a good practice and talking to the people you know aren't making drama. Also for you to put up with all of this you must really like volleyball so don't get distracted and just try your best. Good luck on your next game :)

  4. If i was on the team last year i would have gone crazy with a record of 2-18 just because of drama.People that choose to play sports should have some competitive spirit in them and that should overide the drama or what not.

  5. It's ridiculous that you get quizzed/tested on knowing the rules of volleyball. That's what the refs are for. It just goes to show how dedicated you are to volleyball though, that despite the record, as well as the drama, you stayed for the team. Kudos to you :)

  6. Any sports team shouldn't have to deal with social problems. The point of being in a team is to learn to work together, not letting drama to get the best of you. Good luck on this year though.
