Blog 8: Indentity Crisis

Sometimes I feel as if i'm always going through an identity crisis. For those who are always questioning what ethnicity or race I am, I'm 50% Cambodian, because my father is Cambodian, and im a quarter white (Portuguese and French), and a quarter African American because of my mother.

So basically, my mom is mulado, my dad is Cambodian. My grandma is white, and my grandpa is African American, on my moms side. My great grand parents on my mothers side are French and Portuguese. Ok, so now I know it's a lot to take in, but I wanted to get in depth, just in case you had any questions.

And why do I undergo identity crisis' you ask? Simple. Because i'm of so many ethnicities it's overwhelming, especially living in Lowell where it's extremely diverse. It's even more frustrating when I don't get accepted by my own people. My white family sees me as colored, my asian family sees me as black, and my black family... well yeah I don't know them. But I do know that in the black community i'm seen as asian.

Who am I then? To society i'm everything else. I can say i'm multicultural but what is that? Sometimes I feel like I don't even fit in with my own. Sometimes I feel like i'm more Cambodian than anything. It's just hard to find out what my TRUE culture is. But I guess this is what makes me unique. I try to find the positive sides about being multiracial. I get to experience different cultures and foods. It's cool. I love being a mystery to others. I love my look, and I love all of my family. But I still go through those times where I have an

Blog 7: Trilogy

I'm not sure if any of you had heard of The Weeknd, but he recently came out with an album Trilogy. It's sad to say that i was dissapointed because Trilogy was basically Echoes of Silence, House of Balloons, and Thursday (his three mixtapes) put together with all the songs remixed, in addition to 3 or 4 new songs that are REALLY good. The Weeknd, or Abel Tesfaye's (the singer who's also known as "The Weeknd") hypnotizing beats and ambient yet hip hop infused music has always caught my attention, but in this new mixtape the remixed versions of his music seems to suck really bad and make the original songs not even worth giving a listen to if you were new to his music. Though the remixed versions of their other songs suck, the few new songs are very good, like Twenty Eight, which has become my new favorite song. If you're interested in downloading their mixtapes, i'll provide a link at the end of this blog. I don't think you'll be able to access it in the school computers but if you try to use it at home you can download the mixtapes for FREE.

Blog 6: Trying to Find A New Job

I know you guys are familiar with me working at Burger King, but i've realized I needed an upgrade. I understand money is money, and that I should be happy with having a job in the first place, but i do value happiness over most things... including money; therefore, i've decided to look for a job that suits me. Here's a few links to the places i want to work at:
Marshalls
TJ Maxx
Forever21
As you can see, they are all retail companies. Why would i want to work in retail you ask? Basically because i love fashion and clothing. The pay would be the same as Burger King, the stress i believe would be lower, and i get discounts on clothing!I really just pray I get a new job. I need the money, but I also want the discount on clothing, and the experience of working with clothing so that I can someday start my fashion career.
If any of you know jobs that are hiring, let me know :-D!

Blog 5: Volleyball Has Come to an End

Volleyball is finally over, and i do have to say it was quite a bitter sweet season with a bitter sweet ending. I enjoyed my time playing volleyball for 3 years at LHS. I remember being a little outside hitter in JV, then becomeing an outside hitter in Varsity last year, and a defensive specialist in Varsity this year. I've seen my skills as a volleyball player improve exponentially over the course of years. I've become more confident on the court, and stayed fit while doing something i absolutely love.

Now that the season is over, i've come to realize that this year will be the last year i'll ever get to bump, set, or kill a volleyball unless i make a team in college. Though we had 4 wins and 3 that didn't count (they weren't in our conference), i'll still celebrate the fact that we murdered Lawrence, our only MVCs win. I'll cherish the bus rides and the little petty arguments we had with each other.

I also made a lot of wonderful friends too, and i'll miss them so much.

Bye, bye, volleyball. It was "real". <3
